The French Tennis Federation, Paris La Défense Arena and France’s Minister of Sports, Youth and Community Life have together signed the Ministry of Sports’ charter of 15 eco-responsible commitments

During the first edition of the Rolex Paris Masters in its new venue, Gilles Moretton, president of the French Tennis Federation (FFT), Frédéric Longuépée, CEO of Paris La Défense Arena, and Marina Ferrari, Minister of Sports, Youth and Community Life, have signed the charter of 15 eco-responsible commitments for event organisers. By signing this charter, the FFT and Paris La Défense Arena are demonstrating their shared desire to place sustainable development at the heart of the Rolex Paris Masters for the long term.

Created by the Ministry of Sports and WWF France, this charter – which sets national guidelines for events wishing to adopt a comprehensive sustainable development approach – is based on 15 tangible commitments regarding sustainable food, sustainable transport, resource preservation (water/energy), accessibility and inclusion, waste management, philanthropy and educating people about sustainable development. It aims to limit and measure the environmental impact of sporting events, helping to create a more inclusive society and raise public awareness about environmental issues.

This collaboration allows the Rolex Paris Masters to incorporate an even more eco-responsible approach for various areas of the tournament: catering, accessibility, spectator experience, transport, etc.

By signing the charter, the Rolex Paris Masters and Paris La Défense Arena have set themselves the goal of achieving the charter’s key indicators over the next four years. The goal of the Paris-based Masters 1000 is to be rooted in community life and to speed up social and environmental transition in the world of sport. The aim is for it to become a more responsible and innovative tournament, which ties in perfectly with the eco-responsible commitments made by the FFT for many years now.

The FFT is especially proud to sign this charter with Paris La Défense Arena for the Parisian Masters 1000, after signing it back in 2017 for the Roland-Garros tournament.

Gilles Moretton, president of the French Tennis Federation: “By signing this charter, we are proud to continue our commitment as a federation, just like we did in 2017 when we signed the charter for Roland-Garros. Today, the Rolex Paris Masters, the FFT and Paris La Défense Arena are making a joint commitment to organise more responsible sporting events: by doing this, we want to inspire and set an example for the French and international sporting movement. We are convinced that sport can be a driver for ecological transition.”

Marina Ferrari, Minister of Sports, Youth and Community Life: “By signing this charter, the French Tennis Federation and Paris La Défense Arena have proven that it is possible to combine sporting excellence, environmental excellence and commitment. The Rolex Paris Masters is now an event that embodies this sport- and environment-focused ambition. By signing the charter together, as an event organiser and a sports venue, they are illustrating the need to create an alliance of stakeholders, in order to make sport a driver for change and for the common good. By doing this, France is set to become a gold-standard destination for large-scale international sporting events.”

Frédéric Longuépée, CEO of Paris La Défense Arena: “By signing the charter together, we are asserting our shared belief that large-scale events should be levers for environmental transition. Alongside the French Tennis Federation, we want to make the Rolex Paris Masters a shining example of a sustainable event, anchored in its local area and firmly focused on the future.”
